Gunsan shipyard holds its first naming ceremony

The vessels are two of an eight-ship series of 180,000 dwt bulk carriers ordered by the German shipowner E.R. Schiffahrt in March 2008. Both newbuildings are equipped with an 18,600kW Hyundai built MAN Diesel 6S70MC-C7 engine, measure 291m in length, 45m in width and 24m in depth with a service speed of 15.3 knots.

The newbuildings were named E. R. Borneo and E.R. Brandenburg and will be delivered by early March 2010.

The Gunsan shipyard, which had a ground breaking ceremony in May 2008, will be completed at the end of March this year. The shipyard has a 1,650 tonne lifting capacity Goliath Crane and the world’s largest dry dock at 1.3 million dwt covering 1.8 million m2. It is building 29 vessels including VLCCs and bulk carriers.
