DSME to begin construction of Yantai yard

DSME is currently waiting to receive its construction permit, which should be granted before the end of June. The shipbuilder plans to construct small and medium sized vessels around 30,000 dwt. The company already has a Chinese subsidiary, DCCS, which was built as a ship block yard in 2007. It was originally designed to be a complex shipyard and was envisaged to work as a production base to support DSME’s Okpo Shipyard in Korea. However, due to problems with the Chinese government approval, the yard has since operated only as a block factory.
