Cummins auxiliary engine certified to Tier II

The 60-litre, V-16 cylinder engine joins a full line-up of IMO Tier II compliant propulsion and auxiliary engines from 78 – 1925kW available from Cummins. The engine features the proven Cummins high pressure injection (HPI) electronic fuel system and the same lubrication, cooling, air handling and exhaust systems as the IMO Tier I product. Further, the engine shares similar hardware with its predecessor including engine mounts, vessel connections and optional equipment, simplifying vessel installation and repowers. While hardware and technology remain unchanged, a minor calibration change allowed for emissions reduction without significantly impacting fuel consumption.

Two ratings will be available for auxiliary and generating set applications, 1563kW @ 1,500 rpm and 1,900kW @ 1,800 rpm, making this product a good choice for diesel electric vessel. Production will begin in Q3 2010 at the Daventry engine plant in Daventry, England.
