Kleven books PSV contracts

The Eidesvik order covers the construction of an advanced PSV of VS 489 LNG design for delivery in the first quarter of 2012 at a cost of about $68 million, with an option for a second vessel for fourth quarter 2012 at the same price.

The order for Meling is for one multifunctional PSV of the VS 485 design for delivery February 28, 2011. This is the third VS 485 contract won by Kleven Maritime within a month.

The Eidesvik newbuilding is a natural gas powered platform supply vessel (PSV) measuring 89m long and 21m wide and is designed for low fuel consumption. “With this new vessel Eidesvik strengthens its position as a leading shipping company as regards building and managing environmental friendly offshore vessels”, says ceo Jan Fredrik Meling.

The 6,500 dwt vessels are to be outfitted at Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik and will have deck space of more than 1,050m2. They represent a new generation of environmentally friendly platform service vessels with great emphasis on fuel economy, low emissions and large capacities both below and on deck. Light ice class (ICE C) makes them suitable for northern waters. Sophisticated equipment for oil recovery (OIL REC NOFO 2009) and capacity for standby vessel further increases their market value.

Four LNG dual fuel engines ensure low NOX emissions (85% reduction) and significantly reduce CO2 emissions (25% reduction). A new system for purifying ballast water is installed, a requirement to be implemented for vessels of this kind.

Wärtsilä is to supply the design, generators, automation and electrical power systems. The contract will also provide orders for major local suppliers including Hareid Elektriske Teknikk and Brunvoll.

The Meling multifunctional platform supply vessel will be outfitted at Myklebust Verft in Gursken, Norway. The newbuilding represents a new generation of environmentally friendly and robust platform supply vessels, where much attention is put on low emissions, fuel economy and optimised cargo capacity both above and below deck. Ice class ICE C makes the vessel suitable for operations in the north, and oil recovery equipment (OIL REC) adds further value to the vessel in the market. Deadweight is around 4,500 tonnes, length 88m, beam 20m, deck space about 1,000m2. The vessel has accommodation and certificate for 64 persons. The hull for the vessel will be prepared for installation of crane and helicopter deck.

Wärtsilä will be delivering design, automation and electrical systems. The contracts will also ensure deliveries for local suppliers such as Hareid Elektriske Teknikk and Rolls-Royce Marine.

The contract value is approximately $58 million. Kleven Maritime now has an order book of 11 vessels at a total value of NOK 5.3 billion ($827 million).
