Training module from Seagull targets MLC

Seagull’s latest module CBT #192 ‘MLC 2006 – Onboard Responsibilities’, provides details of the requirements for a ship’s senior officers to achieve onboard compliance, including certification and the consequences of non-compliance.

Seagull launched its introductory MLC 2006 module, CBT #191, earlier in 2010. This was designed to introduce all shipboard personnel and shipping company office staff to the expectations set out by the Convention. The new one hour CBT #192 course is designed to enhance maritime leadership skills, and to draw the attention of senior officers to their responsibilities in crew training under the Convention. This will be followed by CBT #193, designed to demonstrate shipowners’ responsibilities, in early 2011

Seagull says it has begun rolling out this suite of modules to allow shipping companies, ship managers, ship operators and senior officers onboard to acquire the knowledge and manage compliance. The existing Seagull Training Administrator is employed as the training management tool, Seagull says this is currently used on board 7,000 ships and by some 500 clients.

In laying out rights and protection at work for more than 1.2 million seafarers, MLC 2006 updates more than 65 international labour standards related to seafarers adopted over 80 years. Seagull also plans an early 2011 release for its new onboard fitness planning and monitoring tool, to contribute towards meeting the Convention’s requirements on the health and welfare of seafarers.
