Olympic confirms Kleven option

The ship will be built at yard Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, with delivery set for June 2012. It is the second of two identical vessels ordered from Kleven with the first contracted in August 2010.

The vessels are said to represent a new generation of “environmentally friendly and operational state-of-the-art multi-purpose vessels”, with attention paid to fuel economy, low emissions and large capacities both above and below deck. Class notation Ice-C provides for suitability in northern areas, and the vessels will be equipped for oil recovery operations.

Principal particulars are capacity 4,800 dwt, length 93.8m, beam 20m and deck space 1,060 m². Accommodation will be provided for 60 persons. The MT 6015 is being built in accordance with the new SPS code, and will include facilities to make the vessel suitable for ROV and subsea construction work.

The company says that these contracts represent substantial subcontracting work for local suppliers including Hareid Elektriske Teknikk and Rolls-Royce Marine. Contract value is NOK 385 million ($65.4 million) per vessel. Kleven Maritime now has an orderbook of 10 vessels at a value of NOK 4.2 billion.
