Rem Offshore orders PSV quartet

The two new 85m vessels represent a new generation of environmentally friendly platform supply vessels, with an emphasis on low emissions, fuel economy and optimised cargo capacity above and below deck. Ice class ICE C makes the vessels suitable for operations in the north. Deadweight is around 5,000 tonnes, with more than 1,000m² of deck space.

Class notation ‘clean design’ guarantees low emissions through catalysers, and systems for cleaning ballast water meet the latest requirements. Wärtsilä will be delivering design, generator sets, automation and electrical systems. The contracts will also ensure deliveries from local suppliers such as Hareid Elektriske Teknikk and Brunvoll. Kleven Maritime now has ten vessels on order at a total of $730 million.

The other two contracts are with STX Norway Offshore for the STX 06 CD design. The vessels will be delivered in October 2011 and January 2012 at a cost of approx NOK 750 million ($115 million).

Roy Reite, president of STX Europe’s Offshore & Specialized Vessels business area, says: “High focus on innovation combined with our adaptability to meet the offshore market has resulted in seven new building contracts to our Norwegian yards so far this year.”

The new 5,300 dwt vessels are arranged for regular platform supply duties and will be designed for environmental friendly operations with focus on low fuel consumption, and in accordance with ‘clean design’requirements. The newbuildings will also be prepared for catalytic reactor exhaust system for reduced emissions to air.

The 94m long, 20m wide hulls will be built at STX Europe’s Tulcea shipyard in Romania and outfitted at STX Europe, Langsten in Norway.
