Ecospec to supply CSNOx for Dutch newbuildings

Ecospec’s CSNOx is claimed to offer the most efficient abatement technology to reduce SO2, NOx and CO2 from the exhaust gas emitted by ships. The new ECO6500 ship design for ForestWave will be fitted with Ecospec CSNOx emission control system, which reduces emissions without the use of chemicals.

The ECO 6500 design philosophy is to transport the heaviest possible cargo with the lowest possible fuel consumption. Besides an innovative hull shape, the design includes a nozzle fitted around the propeller, resulting in better use of the propulsion force. The effects of the nozzle are said to be substantial at low speeds; though the effect diminishes at higher speeds.

Tests carried out for the ECO 6500 design have shown that the pointed bow with the steep frames and steep verticals pushes ice to the side and directs it around the ship. This is in contrast to the traditional shape of a ship, which pushes part of the ice under the ship, as a result of which this ice rises to the surface behind the ship and is led through the propeller. Furthermore, the absence of the so-called bulbous bow results in reduced resistance of the ship in an ice drift.
