ENVC facing uncertain times

Although the main activity is newbuilding, it has always offered a full range of conversion and ship repair services.

The yard carried out routine repairs on several LPG tankers, passenger ships and dredgers, mainly from Holland, Spain and Portugal. Several pre-delivery dockings of passenger/roro and seismic vessels, built in Spanish yards, were carried out. Some of the jobs involved fitting Schottel stern thrusters.

ENVC undertook the outfitting of the 5,300 dwt passenger/roro ship Abel Matutes from July to December 2009. The main work included the pipe outfitting, installation of the tailshaft and other equipment, different mechanical works and hull treatment.

2010 has started well with many enquiries received.ENVC says it is coming under strong pressure to cut prices in order to remain competitive. Prospects are uncertain with shipowners cutting back and carrying out only minimal essential repairs, and deferring major jobs.
