New flagship for P&O Cruises delivered

This is the 27th passenger vessel built at the yard out of a total of 53 built by Fincantieri. The 290m long, 36m wide newbuilding has a maximum passenger capacity of 4,383 accommodated in 2,180 cabins. The 67.2MW diesel electric plant, comprising four 12,600kW Wärtsilä 12V46C and two 8,400kW Wärtsilä 8L46C medium speed diesel gensets, drives two 21MW Siemens electric motors to power two six-bladed Wärtsilä 5.6m diameter FP propellers for a 22 knot service speed.

Manoeuvrability is enhanced by means of three 2,200kW bow thrusters and three 1,720kW stern thrusters all supplied by Wärtsilä. There are two 1,050kW emergency generators.

The newbuilding offers passengers a wide range of entertainment, including swimming pools, shops, ‘wellness centres’ and libraries, plus the ‘Seascreen’, an open-air cinema beside the main pool.

Cooperation between the two companies started five years ago when Fincantieri built the 82,000gt Arcadia at Marghera shipyard followed by the Ventura.
