Robotic welder developed for ship block construction
The co-operation has resulted in what the two companies claim is a new welding automation system that allows robotic welding to be used in confined ship block manufacturing environments. The companies say that previously, automated welding was only feasible at an early stage in ship block construction, when structures are relatively simple and easily accessible. Although automation would be desirable further down the line, as ship blocks contain a great number of similar, repeatable welds, lack of space has prevented robotic welding.
Kemppi and Inrotech’s solution, known as Mobile Automatic Arc, comprises an Inrotech mobile shipyard robot equipped with a Kemppi flexible arc welding system. The concept is designed to be used and operated inside structures where lack of space is an issue.
