H&W kicks off 2011 with bulging order book

Newly appointed ship repair manager James Lappin said the order books are filling for the rest of the year and the first tanker of the year arrived in March with a comprehensive work scope.

The 65,200 dwt tanker Stena Provence, which is managed by Northern Marine management in Glasgow, docked in the second half of March. This job was significant for H&W as it is repeat business. “The Provence was here two years ago for her first periodic survey,”

says Lappin. “The work scope then included steel modifications, hull maintenance, blasting and painting, propeller polishing, modifications to the piping systems, main engine planned maintenance, installation of winch remote control boxes and V Sat installation – all completed within 15 days.”

According to Lappin “Ship repair work at Harland and Wolff is now acknowledged around the world as among the best quality as well as best value for money. We are extending our reach to include cruise ship projects and increase the number of tanker and bulk carriers on order.”
