Financial help for engine developer

Ultramo is working on what it says “could prove to be the world’s most efficient engine.” It uses what is known as the ‘Ultramo cycle’, which is said to reduce heat loss, significantly reduce engine running costs and halve CO₂ emissions. The first models, says the company, will be best suited for applications where there is a constant load. The Ultramo design will run on multiple fuels, including sustainable and carbon-neutral fuels as they become more readily available. The company was founded by Nick Coates and Chrissi Wilkins in 2010; sSince then, they have worked with several partners to validate the thermodynamic principles behind the Ultramo cycle.

FSE supports companies that will be operating in ecologically driven markets, delivering technologies to help reduce south-east England’s ecological footprint, or that provide efficient business practices.

“We’re looking beyond our proof-of-concept stage now and FSE’s funding is enabling us to benefit from Pera’s extensive experience,” said Chrissi Wilkins, MD of Ultramo.
