Japanese yard completes upgrade

The work was completed with installation of a 300-ton suspension capacity jib crane, and MHI says the modernisation will further boost productivity in the construction of high-value-added vessels, such as coastal-service ferries, ro-ro ships, high-speed boats and special-purpose vessels, primarily for domestic customers.

The 300-ton jib crane and a 150-ton crane, which is also newly installed at the 186m long, 53m wide berth of the Enoura Plant replace four older cranes. In 2010 the plant expanded its general assembly work area into the former dock No1, thus improving work efficiency. The new cranes enable further efficiency gains in transferring building blocks and components. The shipyard hopes overall productivity will improve by 15%.
