MED approval for alarm sounders
The A105N and A112 square format alarm sounders have a maximum output of 112dB(A) and 119dB(A) at 1m, the BExS110 horn sounder is rated at 117dB(A) at 1m. All have 32 user-selectable tones and three remotely selectable stages. The units are claimed to offer high output levels, low current draw, automatic synchronisation and effective ranges at 1kHz of 60m, 125m and 100m respectively. The AlertAlarm A series sounders are manufactured in high impact UL94 V0 flame-retardant ABS, sealed to IP66 for use in marine environments; the IP67 flameproof BEx unit is in marine grade copper free LM6 aluminium and is approved for use in zone 1 and zone 2 gas environments.
The company points out that the European MED directive guarantees the uniform application of standards in Chapter 11-2 of SOLAS and defines the design and test standards for the equipment and the procedures required for testing. E2S says that other products from its range of explosion proof, intrinsically safe and heavy-duty industrial audible and visible warning devices will be MED approved once the third-party testing cycles have been completed.
