New coupling for genset applications

The new item supplements the existing Vulkardan G flexible coupling range for nominal torques of up to 25kNm. In common with the rest of the range, it is designed for engines with SAE flywheel connections, in free-standing systems, where it is possible to extend the elastomer without displacing the connected units. The system is said to be optimised for torsional vibrations, reducing risk of damaging resonances. The design allows for a degree of axial, angular and radial misalignment.

The larger coupling was introduced in response to demand by engine manufacturers for economic generator couplings for non-SAE motors with rated power ranging from 3,000kW – 4,500 kW, with backlash-free torque transmission. With claimed good linear torsional stiffness and ventilation characteristics, the Vulkardan G 84 has been certified by all leading classification societies.
