Contract for boxship propulsion packages

The integrated package for each ship will include RT-Flex 58TD engines, CP propellers and the Wärtsilä Energopac rudder system. Delivery of the equipment for the first vessel is scheduled for May 2012, and the vessels will be delivered from the yard in 2013 and 2014.

The RT-Flex engines comply with IMO Tier II emission requirements and feature common rail fuel injection and valve actuation engine technology, with integrated electronic control, to offer reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions and longer intervals between overhauls. They are designed to be capable of slow steaming with low impact on overall efficiency. The Energopac system, which integrates the propeller and rudder design into a single unit, is designed to further reduce fuel consumption without compromising manoeuvrability or comfort levels.

The ships are being built at the MIPO shipyard, and will be operated by NSCSA subsidiary Mideast Ship Management.
