The build contract has been awarded in conjunction with Shipyard Yantar JSC and is worth around EUR 76 million. The hull will be built by Shipyard Yantar and the final outfitting and will be completed by Arctech.

Esko Mustamäki, managing director of Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, said: “This order re-confirms Arctech Helsinki Shipyard’s world class position in the design and production of the most advanced and sophisticated ice-breaking and arctic tonnage. This order is very important for Arctech as it is a completely new design and it will give us a good workload during 2012 and 2013.”

The new vessel will represent a completely new type of oil spill combat technology. It will have a patented oblique design with an asymmetric hull and three azimuthing propulsors which will allow it to operate in three directions – ahead, astern and sideways. It will also be used in icebreaking operations and for towing and floating vessels.

The finished vessel will measure 76.4m in length and 20.5m in breadth. Work is starting immediately and the vessel will be delivered to the customer in December 2013.
