Evergreen to strengthen Asia-European offering

This latest alliance is no doubt seeking to help counter a slump in cargo rates, tackle the problem of overcapacity and strengthen the company’s position in the market.

It will come into effect in the second quarter of 2012 and will involve vessels ranging from 8,000teu up to 13,000teu operating a total of 12 service loops.

A statement on the company’s website explains that: “All parties intend to enhance highest frequency of service loops, expedition of delivery terms and full scale port coverage.”

It continues: “Through this cooperation, Evergreen Line and CKYH-the Green Alliance will be able to provide the highest quality services to their customers with shortest transit time from major origin ports to European and Mediterranean destinations.”

Although the company will be taking part in the cooperation, it will not be joining CKYH-the Green Alliance, whose members include China COSCO, Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd, Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp and South Korea’s Hanjin Shipping Co Ltd.

The company says it will maintain its existing cooperation with China Shipping.
