Caribbean OSV launched in Florida

The Sea Strength is powered by two Caterpillar C32 marine type engines, each rated 850bhp at 1,800rpm, driving into Twin Disc reverse-reduction gears. It features a bow thruster unit driven by a 300bhp Caterpillar engine, and two John Deere diesel engine powered generator sets, each rated at 99kW at 1,800rpm. The OSV is designed to be less than 500gt, have a Trinidadian load line and comply with the Code of Safety for Caribbean Cargo Ships (CCSS Code).

The Sea Strength is expected to be handed over in February 2012. “St. Johns Ship Building does excellent work,” said Allan (Mark) Ramjallacksingh, operations manager at A. R. Singh Contractors. “The staff there has been professional and courteous. It’s always easy to discuss issues and get immediate feedback. I was impressed with the design by Entech & Assoc, the quality of the designer and build speaks to that of the shipyard.”

A. R. Singh Contractors is located in Point Fort, Trinidad, and since 1978 has provided marine transportation, pipe laying and offshore construction services. It operates a fleet of some 20 vessels including tugs, barges, crew boats and supply boats.
