The two cranes, a 250t MacGregor AHC subsea crane and a 15t MacGregor AHC offshore crane, will be fitted to Volstad’s new offshore construction vessel on order at Bergen Group Fosen shipyard in Norway. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in August 2013, and after handover it will be chartered for subsea intervention services.

The previous contract from Volstad for Cargotec was for a sister vessel due for delivery from the yard in July 2012.

“We are very pleased that Volstad has returned to Cargotec for a repeat contract,” says Frode Grovan, director, sales and marketing for advanced load handling. “It is Cargotec’s strategic aim to benefit its customers by driving innovation and taking the lead in further developing the industries it is in; offshore construction is a growing market and Cargotec is well-positioned to supply the advanced technology that it demands.”

Like its sistership, Volstad’s latest OCV is an ST-259-CD design from Norwegian consultants, Skipsteknisk, and is 125m long and 25m wide. The vessel is designed to high environmental standards and clean design requirements. It will be classed to Ice-1A.
