Chinese low-speed diesel gains class approval

The engine, of a type designed by Wärtsilä specifically for the Chinese market, was accepted by classification society. and will be installed on multi-purpose vessels fabricated by Fujian’s ship owners. With a power of 5,220 kilowatts and a total weight of 80 tons, the engine is designed to IMO Tier II emission requirements, using high-pressure common-rail fuel injection.

With electronic fuel system control and a new-generation electronic pulse cylinder lubrication system, the engine type is claimed to offer a significant reduction in both fuel and cylinder oil consumption.
