Two new engine service products

The portable valve spindle grinder (PVG) was developed at the request of Wärtsilä, for on-site machining of all types of cylinder air-intake/exhaust valve spindles with a disc diameter up to 250mm on small and medium bore diesel engines. The pneumatically driven PVG is designed to be mounted either horizontally or vertically, and is delivered with fixed angles according to the customer’s choice. Contained in two carrying cases, the heaviest weighing 28kg, it is designed for easy transport to the workplace and, says the company, can even be checked in on aircraft.

The other new product is the portable surface lathe (PSL) which is intended for maintenance of sealing surfaces on engines up to 260mm bore (maximal machining diameter is 350mm), as well as upgrading of W32 gas engines to W34 gas engines. Approved and recommended by Wärtsilä, the PSL is used for machining of sealing surfaces between cylinder head and cylinder liner and between cylinder head and engine frame on small bore diesel engines. The PSL is electrically driven and easily operated by one man.

Finally, IOP Marine has developed a portable fuel injector grinding tool (IGT) for reconditioning fuel injector pipe sealing surfaces on medium speed diesel engines. The IGT is claimed to offer savings in both time and money and is easily adapted to suit different engine types.
