Wilhelmsen – ‘Green makes sense’

During his address, Mr Schjerven discussed how the combination of engineering and global network capabilities has made the development of environmental solutions possible for WMS.

Mr Schjerven said: “By offering the best available technologies in the market we can help our customers stay compliant and reduce their vessel operating costs. The less energy a ship consumes the less fuel it will burn, resulting in reduced pollution and cost savings. The majority of vessels use large amounts of chemicals for cleaning, maintenance, water and fuel treatment.”

He added: “Our green agenda fits the company’s vision of shaping the maritime industry. To us, going green makes sense.”

WMS is helping lead the way in bringing environmentally acceptable marine chemicals into the market.

While some have criticised the IMO for moving too slowly and suggested that local regulation might be more effective, WMS believe that making things exclusively local would make it too difficult to operate a global industry like shipping effectively.
