Bourbon’s ‘Alcyon’ is undergoing a comprehensive programme of work at the former Sobrena yard, now part of the Damen group

The order was booked in April, in the second week after the acquisition of the former Sobrena yard in Brest. The scope of work covers the 30-years survey, a complete external paint programme, repairs to tank coatings and major steel renewal in the fore peak area.

According to Damen, its Brest yard has several repair berths and three drydocks, the largest measuring 420m x 80m, which the company says is one of the biggest in Europe, allowing it to accommodate almost any ship currently afloat. The shipyard offers services for any vessel type, including LNG tankers, oil tankers, semi-submersibles, shuttle tankers, FPSOs, offshore construction vessels, jack-up rigs, ro-ro vessels and ferries. The workforce is well-known for its LNG tanker experience.
