A SENER HMD demonstration took place recently in Toledo

Following the development of the second generation of the FORAN FVIEWER VR, the integrated computer system specifically developed for the design, production and engineering of ships, the company has launched a special Head Mounting Display (HMD) for the application.

A recent FORAN users meeting in Toledo allowed users to test the new HMD in action in a special virtual reality room with a 6m by 3m screen, Christie Digital Mirage CP2210 projector and an Is900 ultrasound tracking system from audiovisual partner, Ingevideo.

The HMD lets the user view and interact in a 3D simulation environment – in this case applied to ship 3D models generated in FORAN.

The WorldViz PPTX optical tracking system works by the use of four sensors located in each of the four corners of the room. A gyroscope gives information about the rotations and revolutions of the HMD. Data is transmitted to the workstation very quickly so that the experience is very real.

A special PPTWand is used to interact and navigate through the ship’s 3D virtual model specially configured for wireless use with the FORAN FVIEWER VR.

A VR room has been recently supplied by SENER to NAVANTIA Cartagena. It is being used to perfect the new generation of submarines developed in FORAN for the Spanish Navy – the S80 series.

SENER believes that important advantages and cost reductions are made when the model of the ship can be checked at an early design stage in such an interactive way.
