New KVH dual mode satellite system

The new 1m antenna delivers seamless worldwide broadband service, aiming to deliver robust, high speed, on-board connectivity at all times.

The antenna uses a highly tuned carbon-fibre dish on a unique 4-axis gyro stabilised pedestal. Its robust mechanical design means that it’s smaller and lighter than other 1m Ku-band maritime VSAT systems and 85% smaller and lighter than other C-band systems. The unit aims to do away with multiple antenna systems and to make connectivity more reliable.

It works in unison with KVH’s new mini-VSAT Broadband C/Ku-band network, which delivers multimegabit offshore connectivity with global coverage, except in the extreme polar regions.

The network’s 14 powerful Ku-band satellite transponders automatically switch to C-band service when Ku-band service is unavailable. Both band transmissions are channelled through the same military-grade modem on the same network, so there is no disruption of on-board applications.
