The TT-Sense optical thrust and torque measuring system

From 2013 having a SEEMP (ship energy efficiency management plan) on board will become mandatory for all vessels on their first renewal or intermediary survey.

The company says that the TT-Sense can help with implementation of the SEEMP, which will become mandatory for all ships on their first survey after 2013. By using the instrument to continuously monitor the performance of the vessel’s propulsion system and hull, operators will be able to optimise revenues and reduce the environmental impact, as well as demonstrate compliance with the regulations.

According to VAF Instruments, the new TT-Sense sensor uses nanotechnology and employs an innovative design. By precisely measuring propeller thrust and shaft power it monitors the efficiency of the propulsion system is monitored, providing a reliable indicator for the roughness of the vessel’s hull, resulting in fuel savings up to 5%. Based on actual fuel prices, the return on investment is estimated to occur within a few weeks.
