Cat goes for pure gas genset power
Designed primarily for use as a genset engine in electric propulsion, the G3500 is targeted at the under-2MW sector of the offshore and ferry markets. The engine will be of the spark ignition type, operating 100% on gas, rather than a dual fuel solution. CMPS says the new engine derived from the company’s land-based gas engines, a market where Caterpillar claims more than 80 years experience and over 20,000 gas engines in operation. The G3500 is claimed to offer best-in-class power density, operational reliability and to exceed marine-specific emission and marine class society requirements.
