SAM Electronics wins major IT contract

The contract was awarded to the company by Swiss based Allseas Group for its €1.3m dynamic positioning (DP) platform installation-decommissioning and pipelay vessel, Pieter Schelte, currently being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea.

Holger Mahnke, senior vice president, SAM Electronics, told The Motorship: “Supply of facilities such as IT networks, navigation and monitoring systems, communications and fire alarm assemblies are carried out by SAM on a turnkey basis embracing initial design, installation and testing of equipment to recognised international standards. Coupled with the very latest modular-type advanced equipment, this ensures very cost-effective inclusive operations now increasingly demanded by the offshore industry.”

SAM Electronics will install a customised multifunction IT network on the 383m vessel. The assembly, which has been based on a 10GB LAN network, includes a high precision IP based master clock facility for global use, comprehensive IP TV and video-on-demand equipment, satellite antennas for internet access and a VoIP telephone system.

SAM will also supply additional equipment including 250 internal, external and underwater cameras, as well as 30 viewing stations for monitoring pipelaying and lifting operations, GMDSS safety equipment and navigation and special offshore lighting and a fog warning system.

The vessel is expected to commence service in 2014.
