ABC expands into new markets

The DL36 introduction marks 100 years of engine production for ABC, the company having been established in 1912 with the support of Dr Rudolf Diesel. The 6DL36 is available for propulsion in 4,239bhp, 5087bhp and 5,299bhp ratings at 600rpm, 720rpm and 750rpm respectively. Equivalent ratings for gensets are available.

According to ABC, the use of variable valve timing enables the Miller cycle for low NOx, while an optimised common-rail fuel system with two-stage turbocharging and exhaust gas recirculation will allow the DL36 to meet IMO Tier III emission limits without the need for SCR or water-in-fuel emulsion, and with a claimed negligible adverse effect on fuel consumption. Fuel flexibility is said to be a particular feature of the DL36, with the capability to operate on HFO up to 700cSt as well as distillates. Dual fuel, bio-fuel and tri-fuel versions are promised for the future.

The engine measures 365mm bore and 420mm stroke, and is available for clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation. The design of the common-rail fuel system means that even in case of failure of one of the pump cylinders, the pump will continue working, while mechanical injection is available as an option.

The DL36 sits at the top of ABC’s existing portfolio, comprising the DX and DZ ranges, which cover power requirements from 150kW to 4,000kW. Deliveries of the six-cylinder engine are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2013, with an eight-cylinder inline version to follow in 2014, and V-format versions scheduled for the future.
