1,000th SEEMP for GLs FutureShip

GL’s maritime consulting subsidiary, FutureShip, has developed a template-based solution designed to assist owners and operators in meeting the new regulations, which enter into force on 1 January 2013. The SEEMP Solution is said to help them to meet the challenge of improving vessel fuel efficiency in accordance with this incoming regulation, while increasing cost competitiveness. FutureShip has now delivered its 1,000th SEEMP, a milestone which was marked by a presentation ceremony in Athens to shipping company EFNAV.

Envisioned as a management tool to assist a company in improving energy efficiency of ships in operation, a SEEMP must be specific for each ship in a fleet and should be used together with established environmental management systems. According to GL, the SEEMP allows companies to reduce fuel consumption through simple operational measures and making investments that can improve performance and pay off in reduced costs.

FutureShip says it has already demonstrated that implementing a SEEMP can have extremely beneficial results when a comprehensive system of continuous improvement is introduced. The consulting scheme is complemented by FutureShip’s ECO-Assistant, a CFD-based trim optimisation tool.
