Sembawang secures RCCL contract

Under the Favoured Customer Contract (FCC), Sembawang will provide ship repair, revitalisation, upgrading and related marine services for RCL’s fleet of 41 cruise ships. The companies will carry out joint planning to ensure sustainable targets in the areas of HSE (Health, Safety and Environment), logistics management, quality and cost efficiency, are achieved.

Kevin Douglas, vice president, technical projects and new buildings, Royal Caribbean Cruises, said: “The selection of Sembawang Shipyard as our partner in the Far East is in line with Royal Caribbean’s strategy to grow our cruise business in Asia as we see Asia, and in particular, China and Singapore, as our key markets.”

Wong Lee-Lin, executive director of Sembawang Shipyard, added:”Sembawang Shipyard has over the recent few years, focused strongly on the development of our fast growing niche markets, one of which is the cruise ship repairs/upgrades and conversion market.”

The contract includes two cruise ships calling at the shipyard for major revitalisation as well as a third ship for drydocking and repairs between 2013 and 2014, with total estimate sales ranging from US$40m (S$50m) to US$57m (S$70m) depending on the scale of repairs and upgrading packages.
