Deen LNG barge bunkers at Antwerp

Ed de Jong, business development, Deen Shipping, said to The Motorship: “The vessel has been in operation for thirteen months, but this is the first time it has refuelled at Antwerp, which is strategically placed in terms of logics and location for us, the Argonon has previously bunkered in Rotterdam.”

Deen Shipping owns five ships. Two bunker ships supply marine vessels in the Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp ports with crude oil. The other ships transport mineral oils and distillates for refineries. Those ships sail to storage depots in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. The Argonon sails on dual fuel, and Deen says it was the first bunker barge in Europe to do so.

The bunkering at Antwerp was made possible by LNG Bunkering Services, a special subsidiary – Deen Shipping owns its own bunkering company.

Deen only obtained permission for refuelling from Antwerp last month. Before permission was granted, a safety study had to be carried out to determine the best procedure for truck to ship transfer.

The Port of Antwerp says that it is continuing to lend its support to barges and vessels that run on LNG to help make the logistics of the supply chain more sustainable and do its bit to reduce emissons.
