British Cruise Ship overhauled in Hamburg

The work on the British cruise ship, built in 2000 by Fincantieri, was carried out in the Hamburg yard’s giant Elbe Dock 17. The yard told The Motorship that along with docking, cleaning and painting of the external hull, general repairs and class work, the job also included the overhaul of four thrusters as well as stabilisers and port and starboard tailshaft survey.

Blohm + Voss Repair is itself now British-owned after its sale – along with sisters Blohm + Voss Industries and Blohm + Voss Shipyards – to UK investment company Star Capital Partners (SCP) early this year.

Oceana’s yard stay co-incided with a visit to Hamburg’s Altona Cruise Terminal of a second P&O ship – the Meyer-built 69,000gt Oriana – on her first Christmas cruise to the German port.

is the third big cruise ship to dock at Blohm + Voss Repair in recent weeks. Holland America’s 61,849gt

Rotterdam

has just left after docking for routine external cleaning and hull conservation along with general repairs and class work. Before her, the yard docked the 54,763gt
