‘Stena Sunrise’ named in South Korea

The vessel is the last ordered in a series of seven units by Stena Bulk. It’s a third generation, fuel-efficient Suezmax and, like the other tankers in the series, will be employed on the spot market via Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool.

In conjunction with SHI, Stena Teknik was responsible for the development of the new ship model, where the focus has been firmly on energy efficiency. The vessel’s technical equipment and design means that fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 10-15% compared with standard tonnage. Stena says that as a result, fuel consumption can be reduced by 4-6 thousand litres per day, thus saving US$3-4,000 per day.

Besides the generally good quality delivered by the shipyard, we have together achieved our fuel efficiency target, which was the single most important objective.”

The 274m Stena Sunrise, ordered back in 2010, is the last vessel in a series called the ‘seven sisters’, each representing an investment of just under SEK500m. It has a beam of 48m and a deadweight of 158,700 tons.
