Burgess Marine acquires Testbank Ship Repair

Burgess Marine said the acquisition will create the largest independent ship repair company in Britain and will generate a combined turnover of around £20m plus.

The company also purchased Testbank’s privately owned shares outright for an undisclosed sum.

With the acquisition, Testbank’s former managing director, Jason Coltman, has become operations director for Burgess Marine.

Nick Warren, managing director, Burgess Marine, said: “The acquisition will benefit our customers across the UK and internationally from economies of scale, as well as providing job security and prospects for our 120 highly skilled and dedicated employees and over 200 sub-contractors. This tie-up is very much about maximising existing and future opportunities through a blend of market-leading skills.”

He added: “With Testbank on board, the business is ideally located to support the UK’s largest passenger ports from strategic locations across the South Coast and shipping in general throughout the busy English Channel.”

The newly enlarged Burgess Marine will offer marine repair services including welding, electrical, engine overhauls, structural fabrication and mechanical support.
