Ardmore Shipping names newest vessels

The naming ceremonies of the 49,999dwt IMO 3 product and chemical tankers took place at SPP’s Dukpo and Sacheon shipyards in South Korea, before the Ardmore Seavaliant was delivered to US transportation company, Cargill, on a 12-month charter arrangement.

SSP has estimated that the newbuilds, which have been designed to deliver high standards of fuel efficiency and operational performance, will deliver fuel savings of 10% to 15%. Both vessels feature a larger, more efficient propeller, Mewis Duct and propeller boss cap fin devices for improved propeller and hull form efficiency. They have also been equipped with MAN B&W ME-B and ME-C electronic engines, feature International Paint high performance hull coating and SkySails’ performance monitor voyage optimisation system. Each ship holds voluntary EEDI certification by ABS.

Anthony Gurnee, CEO, Ardmore Shipping, said: “We are delighted that the Seavaliant is entering service with a reputed charterer such as Cargill. Taking delivery of our first new build vessel is a significant step for Ardmore, as we continue to build a modern, high quality tanker fleet.”

The Ardmore Seaventure is scheduled for delivery in May 2013, with two more 49,999dwt IMO 3 product and chemical tankers scheduled for delivery by SSP in January 2014.
