The Triple-E vessels will be the largest container ships ever built

The Triple-E vessels will have a capacity for 18,000 20 foot containers and will be the largest container ships ever built.

The three e’s in Triple-E stand for economy, energy efficiency and environmentally improved. And for good reason, these vessels will consume around 35% less fuel than standard 13,100 teu vessels. They will also reduce CO2 emissions by more than 50% for every container moved, compared to the industry average.

When completed, the Triple-E vessels will be phased into the AE10 service which calls at 13 ports between Asia and Northern Europe.

The Discovery Channel will be airing a six part documentary on the building of the Triple-E vessels called The World’s Largest Ship due to be screened in November 2013.

The series will focus on every stage of the build from the design of the vessels unique hull, construction of the enormous engines and propellers and the vessels maiden voyages.
