Severn sewage system for Oz patrol boats

Severn’s system, which was launched in 2010, can treat up to 8,176 litres of black and grey water per day and features a bulkhead mounted arrangement, a first of its kind design with a zero floor space footprint.

Dana Casbeer, marine and offshore product line manager, Severn Trent De Nora, said: “Daily activities aboard vessels generate sewage that can contain contaminants that have a detrimental effect on water quality and the overall marine environment.”

The electrolytic disinfection technology used by the Mariner Omnipure generates a powerful oxidant from seawater to effectively disinfect biological wastes, resulting in wastewater effluent quality well within the MEPC.159 (55) requirements.

The Mariner Omnipure M5508 system has been installed on Cape St George, the first in a series of eight new patrol boats which are being designed and constructed by Austal.

The 58m aluminium monohulls, which can operate at 25 knots and have a range in excess of 4,000 nautical miles, will be used to help protect Australia’s borders from maritime threats. The remaining boats, which will also be fitted with the M5508 system, are scheduled for delivery between March 2013 and February 2015.
