Techcross and Keppel jointly attack BWMS retrofit market

The MoU between Techcross and Keppel is aimed at what Techcross describes as “the significant retrofitting market”. The companies will join forces in joint marketing initiatives and to share support services.

With entry into force of the IMO 2004 Convention for the control and management of ships’ ballast water and sediments approaching, the companies have identified a need to provide support to customers before and after ratification. Techcross points out that the new-construction vessel market comprises 2,500 to 3,000 vessels per year, while in comparison, the retrofitting market is expected to include 50,000 to 70,000 vessels. The ratification of the BWM Convention is expected to lead to an explosive growth in the BWMS market.

Keppel Shipyard claims to offer suitable experience and to provide a broad range of offshore and marine services to customers internationally; it says it is well placed to undertake retrofitting work such as the installation of BWMS in a cost-effective, prompt and safe manner. Techcross says it has been preparing for the retrofitting market since the beginning of its business and is ready to expand its aggressive sales strategy with the signing of the MoU.
