Evergreen Line christens new containership
The company’s vice group chairman, Kuo-Shiuan-Yu, will christen the 11th vessel in the series, the Ever Logic, today.
The two ships will join Evergreen Line’s Far East – Europe routes after they enter into service in late April 2013.
In addition to the east-west long haul trades from Asia to Europe and North America, the ships can be employed on north-south routes linking Asia to South Africa and South America.
Evergreen Line says the new vessels will enable it to adjust its fleet capacity across a number of trades to meet global demand and customers’ future space requirements.
The flexible L-type containerships are part of Evergreen’s new shipbuilding programme announced in 2010. As part of the programme, the company ordered 20 L-type vessels from SHI in 2010 and a further 10 of the same specification from Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation in 2011.
Eighteen of the thirty newbuilds are expected to be delivered by the end of 2013.
