Engine service contract for Cat distributor

The agreement covers all of Serco’s UK and Ireland marine operations as well as all certain land-based operations. Finning says that it has been providing engine support to Serco for the past year on its FMPS (future provision of maritime services) contract, which was awarded to Serco by the UK Ministry of Defence for the provision of marine services at UK Royal Navy bases. However, according to Finning, the latest contract represents the first time that Serco has sub-contracted all of its engine support requirements to a single provider.

Alongside traditional repair, maintenance and service provision, the exclusive agreement includes asset management of all the engines in the estate, provision of genuine spare parts and cost-of-ownership analysis, to ensure that each asset is delivering efficient performance.

The contract comprises all of Serco’s marine operations including 54 vessels on the FMPS contract, the Northlink ferry line in Scotland and support for international nuclear shipping (INS) container vessels. It covers a diverse range of engine types and makes, including – as well as the Caterpillar, Perkins and MaK brands – Ruston, Deutz and MAN among others.

Commenting on the new agreement Serco said, “Our clients depend on us to manage their facilities effectively and to provide the highest levels of support at all times, as any unforeseen downtime can affect their business performance. In particular, the availability of power can have a direct impact on business continuity and, with such a diverse range of power installations in both our marine and land-based operations, we needed to select a supplier that could offer the right support, across multiple product types and in a wide variety of locations. We have benefitted from Finning’s experience for the past year on the FPMA contract so it was a logical decision to use the company’s expertise elsewhere across our estate.”
