The technology will enable each 90m, 4,500 tonnes PSVs to keep stationary just a few metres from an oil and gas platform, as it transfers fluids, equipment and personnel in challenging weather conditions.

Carlos Adrião, marine business director, GE Power Conversion Brazil & Latin America, said: “A PSV will be operating for possibly decades; we need to make sure that the technologies we provide them today will keep them competitive tomorrow.”

GE says its latest technology will enable the PSVs to perform operations within the oil and gas industry with stability, safety and precision and will significantly contribute to their overall efficiency and operational effectiveness.

The vessels, which are being built for Brazilian operator, Starnav Serviços Marítimos, will operate under a long-term contract with Brazilian oil company, Petrobras.
