Biggest boxship from Taiwanese yard

Ever Living is 334.8m in length, 45.8m wide, with 948 reefer plugs and a draught of 14.2m. Maximum cruising speed is 24.5 knots. The 8,505teu ship is the first of 10, originally ordered in 2011, and is the largest class in the Evergreen fleet as well as the largest container ships built at CSBC. It will join the Evergreen Singapore fleet operating between the Far East and Europe.

According to Evergreen, the yard committed nine months to optimising the hull design. Tests at the HSVA basin in Hamburg showed a speed 0.7 knot faster than the average value experienced by the Institute and a 0.45 knot higher speed compared to the expected performance of the optimised design. The company says that, given the same engine specification and operation at the same speed, the hull design can achieve fuel consumption more than 10% lower than older designs.

CSBC developed a high tensile steel (HT47), in conjunction with China Steel Corporation in Taiwan for use in the L-type ships. HT47 enables the ship to achieve its structural strength with less material, resulting in lighter weight and a lower power requirement, as borne out by the ship’s sea trials.
