Wärtsilä design for LNG powered PSV
The scope of the contract includes the Wärtsilä VS 4411 LNG PSV initial, basic and detailed ship design that will reduce operating costs and promote environmentally sustainable shipping.
Magnus Miemois, vice president, Wärtsilä Solutions, said: “By facilitating the use of LNG as a clean and economically competitive marine fuel, we have created a paradigm shift that benefits our customers and the industry as a whole.”
The contract also includes the complete diesel-electric system with Wärtsilä dual-fuel generation sets, Wärtsilä LNGPac gas storage and handling system and the complete electric and automation system, including a four-split Wärtsilä Low Loss Concept (LLC) solution.
Wärtsilä’s LLC solution enables energy efficiency increases of 2 to 4% and reduced electrical losses leading to greater fuel economy, while providing additional reliability for continuous operation.
This order follows a similar one placed in November 2012 for a PSV for Siem Offshore.
The 89.2m long vessel is scheduled to begin operations in 2015 and will be used to support offshore drilling and production activities in the North Sea, operating under charter by AS Norske Shell.
