The Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller, which is driven by twin 8-cylinder MAN diesel engines and two propellers, is the first of Maersk’s ‘Triple E’ class vessels.

Maersk says ABB’s Cylmate pressure transducers are used to measure the combustion pressure in each cylinder of the engines, continuously and in parallel, under all load conditions.

Without the need for recalibration, pressure measuring accuracy is claimed to be 0.5% over the full range.

ABB says its accuracy is not influenced by any clogging or heat flash from the combustion gases, which is a common problem in methane-based pressure transducers.

Cylmate enables the tuning and controlling of the combustion pressure stroke-by-stroke, which the company says saves money and improves energy efficiency while lowering the risk of off-hire costs.
