New Incat ferry for Japan

With an operating speed of 30 to 34 knots and utilising Incat’s wave piercing Hull 068, it will be Sado Kisen’s first high speed vehicle and passenger ferry. And it’s a new client in Japan for Incat.

“This is yet another positive foray into the growing Asian market with continued interest in fast and economical ferries. We are excited to be working with a new client in Japan,” said Robert Clifford, Incat chairman.

Due for delivery in 2015, the new catamaran will be able to transport 700 passengers and has a capacity for seven large trucks and 98 cars, or 173 cars only.

The ferry will operate on the 39 nautical route from Naoetsu Port in Niigata to Ogi, Sado Islands’s most southerly port. It will replace the 1995 built conventional built 120m car ferry Kogane Maru.

Meanwhile, Incat will be expanding its production team including taking on new apprentices next year. This is to make sure that the 70m fast crewboat it also under construction is ready for delivery to Azerbaijan in late 2014.
