New ballast water system launched

The Hyde Guardian Gold is IMO type-approved and is said to provide a 50% reduction in footprint compared to other BWT systems because of its smaller filter but this does not compromise efficiency.

Hyde says that despite its compact size, the robust construction and technological specifications necessary to met the stringent ballast water treatment (BWT) regulations have not been compromised.

John Platz, president, Hyde Marine, said: “The addition of the Hyde Guardian Gold to our suite of our maritime solutions will help the growing numbers of ship owners and operators facing compliance deadlines meet their ballast water treatment requirements.”

Advantages include continuous and increased airflow to tanks during ballasting, the ability to handle heavy organic sediment loading and up to a 30% reduction in peak power consumption.

The new system is suitable for both installation in existing vessels where retrofits are required in crowded machinery spaces or in newbuilds.

It combines a efficient filtration and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection with flow rates ranging from 60 up to 60,000 cubic metres per hour.

The company says that it has delivered more than 200 Guardian Gold systems and commissioned more than 120 for operation for a variety of vessels so far.
