Stolt newbuilds to receive exhaust scrubbers

The ships are part of a six-vessel order from Stolt Tankers and associated operator NYK Stolt. The other four ships in the series will be built with EGCS retrofitting in mind. Installation of these first two units is scheduled to take place during 2015. Clean Marine says that adoption of its EGCS is in line with Stolt’s environmental and safety policies and will ensure that the ships meet all international and regional regulatory requirements.

The Clean Marine EGCS is said to be based on advanced vortex chamber technology that employs an integrated fan and gas recirculation systems that allow a single EGCS unit to simultaneously serve several combustion units. The system supplied to Stolt Tankers is a hybrid system that allows the vessel to operate in all types of water (including low alkaline and saline water) without loss of efficiency, while the EGCS is claimed comfortably to meet current pH limits for washwater discharge in European and US waters. The Stolt systems will clean SOx and PM emissions from one main engine, three auxiliaries and three boilers. representing 140,000kg exhaust per hour.
